Variants of the Graves' disease syndrome (Fig. 17.3) include ophthalmic Graves' disease, where the eye signs of Graves' disease occur in the absence of hyperthyroidism or a history of past hyperthyroidism; the patient is usually euthyroid but may be subclinically or clinically hypothyroid.
